Chuck Wayne

Chuck Wayne (1923–1997) was an influential American jazz guitarist noted for his bebop style, emerging in the 1940s. He played in prominent bands, including Woody Herman's First Herd and the George Shearing quintet, and served as music director for Tony Bennett. Wayne developed a unique method of guitar playing and a systematic approach to jazz chords and scales that significantly impacted guitar technique. His innovative contributions to jazz guitar include pioneering a method of simultaneous alternate picking and fluid chord voicings, which helped shape the sound of modern jazz guitar. Wayne passed away in 1997 due to emphysema.
