Kitty WellsKitty Wells, born Ellen Muriel Deason in Nashville in 1919, was a pioneering American country music singer and the first female country superstar. She gained prominence with her 1952 hit "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," which was the first single by a female artist to top the U.S. country charts, and she became known as the "Queen of Country Music." Throughout her career, she achieved numerous accolades, including induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1976, and she significantly influenced future generations of female country artists before her passing in 2012.
