Frances WayneFrances Wayne (1919-1978) was an American jazz vocalist renowned for her interpretation of "Happiness Is Just a Thing Called Joe." Born in Boston, she began her career in the 1940s, performing with notable bands including those led by Charlie Barnet and Woody Herman, and she was the female vocalist on The Woody Herman Show. Wayne was recognized for her vocal talent and unique style, earning the Esquire Award as Best New Female Vocalist in 1946. She was married to musician Neal Hefti until her death from cancer in 1978.
