Cecil Taylor

Cecil Taylor (1929–2018) was an influential American jazz pianist and poet known for pioneering free jazz and avant-garde styles. His music, characterized by complex improvisations and physical energy, evolved from traditional jazz in the 1950s into more abstract expressions in the following decades, earning him acclaim and a unique place in jazz history. Taylor's extensive career included collaborations with notable musicians, the formation of innovative ensembles, and performances blending music with poetry and dance. He received several awards, including a MacArthur Fellowship, and continued to perform until his death at age 89.
