Doris Troy

Doris Troy (1937–2004) was an American R&B singer and songwriter, known as "Mama Soul," who gained prominence in the 1960s. Her most notable hit, "Just One Look," reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963, and she had a successful career as a backup vocalist for various artists. Troy also recorded for The Beatles' Apple Records and was part of the original lineup of The Sweet Inspirations. In addition to her music career, she inspired the stage musical "Mama, I Want to Sing," based on her life. Troy passed away from emphysema at the age of 67.
