Hazel Scott

Hazel Scott (1920–1981) was a Trinidadian American jazz and classical pianist and singer known for her significant contributions to music and civil rights. As a child prodigy, she studied at Juilliard and performed in notable venues throughout the 1930s and 1940s, becoming the first Black American to host her own TV show, The Hazel Scott Show, in 1950. Scott was a strong advocate against racial discrimination and faced blacklisting during the McCarthy era, prompting her to relocate to Paris until 1967. Her legacy includes a blend of musical talent and activism, making her an influential figure in both the arts and civil rights movements.
