Sonny Rollins

Sonny Rollins, born Walter Theodore Rollins on September 7, 1930, is an influential American jazz tenor saxophonist and composer known for his significant contributions to the genre over a career that spanned more than seven decades. He is celebrated for his original compositions, such as "St. Thomas" and "Doxy," which have become jazz standards, and is recognized as a leading improviser in jazz history. Rollins took notable sabbaticals to enhance his craft and publicly retired in 2014 due to health issues. He recorded over sixty albums as a leader and remains a prominent figure in jazz music.
