Sonny Red

Sonny Red, born Sylvester Kyner Jr. on December 17, 1932, was an American jazz alto saxophonist, flutist, and composer known for his contributions to hard bop and other jazz styles. He gained prominence in the late 1950s after playing with notable musicians such as Art Blakey and Curtis Fuller, and he recorded several albums as a leader, particularly in the early 1960s. Despite a decline in visibility during the 1970s, his work remains significant in the jazz genre until his death on March 20, 1981.
