Jimmy Raney

Jimmy Raney (1927–1995) was an influential American jazz guitarist from Louisville, Kentucky, recognized for his prolific contributions to various jazz styles including cool jazz and bebop. He gained prominence in the early 1950s, performing with notable ensembles such as the Red Norvo Trio and Stan Getz, and won the DownBeat Critics' Poll for guitar in both 1954 and 1955. Despite battling serious health issues like Ménière's disease, he remained active in music until his later years and left a lasting legacy in the jazz community. He passed away from heart failure in 1995.
