Mavis Rivers

Mavis Rivers (1929–1992) was a notable Samoan and New Zealand jazz singer, born in Apia, Samoa, into a musical family. She gained prominence in the 1950s after recording with the Lloyd Sly Quartette and later moved to the United States, where she was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1960. Rivers passed away from a stroke following a concert in Los Angeles in 1992.
