Irene Reid

Irene Reid (September 23, 1930 – January 5, 2008) was an American jazz singer known for her powerful voice and versatile performances. Born in Savannah, Georgia, she gained prominence in the late 1940s after winning an amateur contest at the Apollo Theater and subsequently performed with notable orchestras, including Count Basie’s. Reid's career included collaborations with jazz legends and appearances in Broadway productions, notably "The Wiz." Though she experienced a decline in popularity in the 1970s and 1980s, she made a successful comeback in the late 1980s and continued to release music until her death.
