Hank Penny

Hank Penny, born Herbert Clayton Penny in 1918, was an American musician and comedian known for his contributions to the Western swing genre, primarily as a banjo player. Active from the 1930s to the 1980s, he fronted various bands including the Radio Cowboys and the Plantation Boys, and achieved notable successes with songs like "Bloodshot Eyes" and "Steel Guitar Stomp." Recognized for his comedic character "That Plain Ol' Country Boy," he appeared on television while performing across prominent venues, including a long stint at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. Penny passed away in 1992 and is remembered as a significant figure in the development of country music.
