Howard McGhee

Howard McGhee (1918–1987) was an influential American jazz trumpeter and one of the early adopters of bebop, playing alongside key figures like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Active primarily in the 1940s, he was noted for his technical skills and contributions to various bands, including those of Lionel Hampton and Count Basie. Despite struggles with drug issues and racism affecting his career, he made a notable comeback in the 1960s as both a performer and educator, leaving a lasting impact on the jazz genre throughout his life. McGhee passed away in 1987, leaving behind a significant musical legacy.
