Charlie Mariano

Charlie Mariano (1923–2009) was an American jazz saxophonist renowned for his work with the alto and soprano saxophones, and he also occasionally played the flute and nadaswaram. Born in Boston, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II before studying music at what is now Berklee College of Music, where he later taught. Mariano gained prominence in jazz and jazz fusion, collaborating with notable figures such as Stan Kenton and Charles Mingus. He spent much of his later life in Europe, particularly in Köln, Germany, where he contributed to various musical ensembles until his death from cancer at age 85.
