Abbey Lincoln

Abbey Lincoln, born Anna Marie Wooldridge on August 6, 1930, was a notable American jazz vocalist, songwriter, and actress. Active from 1956 until her death in 2010, she became recognized for her powerful interpretations of jazz standards and her original songs, many of which reflected themes from the civil rights movement. Additionally, Lincoln was an accomplished actress, appearing in several films and television shows. Throughout her career, she received accolades, including a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Award in 2003, and she remained a prominent figure in both the jazz scene and civil rights activism until her passing at age 80.
