Lee Konitz

Lee Konitz (1927–2020) was an influential American jazz alto saxophonist and composer, recognized for his distinctive contribution to cool jazz and other styles such as bebop and avant-garde jazz. He gained notable fame for his involvement in the 1940s and 1950s cool jazz movement, including participation in Miles Davis's legendary "Birth of the Cool" sessions and collaborations with pianist Lennie Tristano. Over a career spanning more than seven decades, Konitz recorded extensively and influenced many saxophonists, continuing to perform and innovate until his death from complications related to COVID-19.
