Ahmad Jamal

Ahmad Jamal, born Frederick Russell Jones on July 2, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was an influential American jazz pianist, composer, and educator who passed away on April 16, 2023. Active for over six decades, he became renowned for his innovative minimalist style that eschewed fast-paced bebop in favor of space and subtlety in jazz performance. Jamal's notable achievements include receiving a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master designation and a Lifetime Achievement Grammy. He greatly influenced the jazz genre, particularly through his acclaimed album "At the Pershing: But Not for Me," which solidified his significance in jazz history and impacted artists such as Miles Davis.
