Bubber Johnson

James "Bubber" Miley (1903–1932) was an influential American jazz trumpet and cornet player known for his distinctive use of the plunger mute and his contributions to the early jazz scene. As a prominent member of Duke Ellington's band from 1923 to 1929, Miley's unique style influenced several of Ellington's notable pieces, including "Creole Love Call" and "East St. Louis Toodle-O." Despite his musical successes, Miley struggled with alcoholism, which ultimately impacted his career and contributed to his early death at age 29 from tuberculosis.
