Johnny JanisJanis Joplin (1943–1970) was a renowned American singer and songwriter, celebrated for her powerful mezzo-soprano voice and dynamic stage presence. She gained fame in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company after her standout performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and she later pursued a successful solo career. Joplin's notable tracks include "Piece of My Heart," "Me and Bobby McGee," and "Summertime." Her struggle with substance abuse culminated in her tragic death from a heroin overdose at age 27, but she left an enduring legacy in rock music and was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
