Joni JamesJoni James, born Giovanna Carmella Babbo on September 22, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, was an American traditional pop singer who gained fame in the 1950s. She was known for her hit records, including "Why Don't You Believe Me?" and "Your Cheatin' Heart," and recorded over 25 albums and 100 million records during her career, which spanned from 1952 to 1964. James was notable for being the first American to record at London's Abbey Road Studios. After retiring from music, she returned to performing in the late 1990s and died on February 20, 2022, at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy celebrated by fans and the music industry.
