Jutta Hipp

Jutta Hipp (1925-2003) was a German jazz pianist and composer, known for her unique and percussive playing style. Born in Leipzig, she played jazz secretly during the Nazi regime and later became a refugee after World War II. In the 1950s, she gained recognition in Germany and moved to the United States, where she performed at notable venues and recorded for Blue Note Records. Despite her early success, Hipp's music career declined, and she opted for a stable job in a clothing factory, distancing herself from the jazz scene. She passed away in Queens, New York, leaving behind a legacy as one of the few prominent female jazz instrumentalists of her era.
