Lionel Hampton

Lionel Hampton (1908–2002) was a prominent American jazz vibraphonist, percussionist, and bandleader, known for his influential role in the jazz genre. He gained notoriety for his collaboration with notable artists such as Benny Goodman and Louis Armstrong, and was instrumental in popularizing the vibraphone. Throughout his career, Hampton led his own big band, which thrived during the 1940s and featured significant musicians like Charles Mingus and Dizzy Gillespie. He received numerous accolades, including the National Medal of Arts and induction into various jazz halls of fame, reflecting his impact on both jazz music and cultural outreach. Hampton continued to perform actively until his later years, passing away at the age of 94.
