Mary Hopkin

Mary Hopkin, born on May 3, 1950, in Pontardawe, Wales, is a notable Welsh singer recognized for her 1968 UK number 1 hit "Those Were the Days," which sold over 8 million copies worldwide. She was among the first artists signed to the Beatles' Apple label and gained fame after winning the television talent show Opportunity Knocks. Hopkin represented the UK in the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in second place with "Knock, Knock Who's There?" After a successful career in the late 1960s and early 1970s, she took a hiatus from the music scene to focus on family before returning to recording in later decades, releasing multiple albums.
