The Golden Gate Quartet

The Golden Gate Quartet, originally formed as the Golden Gate Jubilee Singers in 1934 in Norfolk, Virginia, is an influential American gospel vocal group known for its unique blend of traditional jubilee music with elements of blues and jazz. The group gained popularity through radio performances, recordings, and notable appearances at prestigious events, including a performance at Carnegie Hall in 1938 and Franklin Delano Roosevelt's inauguration in 1941. Active for nearly nine decades with numerous lineup changes, they achieved significant success, especially during the 1940s, and continued to tour extensively in Europe, becoming icons in gospel music.
