Ann Gilbert

Anne Hartley Gilbert (1821–1904), known as Mrs. G. H. Gilbert, was a British cross-dressing actress who gained prominence on stage in the mid-19th century. After starting her career as a dancer, she transitioned to speaking roles and achieved significant success in American theater, including a notable performance in the comedy "Caste" at the Broadway Theatre in 1867. Throughout her career, Gilbert became highly respected for her ability to portray a range of characters, particularly older women, and she remained active on stage until her final performance just days before her death from a brain hemorrhage.
