The Gateway Singers

The Gateway Singers were an American folk music group that achieved national recognition in the late 1950s, particularly noted for their hit song "Puttin' on the Style," which sold one million copies. They were featured in the Smithsonian's Folk Song America compilation, and after their disbandment in 1961, some members continued as the "Gateway Trio." The group faced challenges, including the cancellation of a television appearance due to racial integration concerns. Members Lou Gottlieb and Travis Edmonson went on to form notable musical acts after leaving the group.
