Al Grey

Al Grey was an American jazz trombonist born on June 6, 1925, in Aldie, Virginia, and he passed away on March 24, 2000, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Notable for his membership in the Count Basie orchestra and his distinctive plunger mute technique, Grey contributed significantly to jazz music both as a performer and an educator, authoring an instructional book in 1987 titled "Plunger Techniques." His career spanned from 1946 to 1990, during which he recorded extensively, leading numerous bands and collaborating with prominent musicians such as Benny Carter, Dizzy Gillespie, and J. J. Johnson.
