Wardell GrayWardell Gray (1921–1955) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist known for his contributions to the bebop and swing genres. Gray gained prominence through his performances at Los Angeles clubs and recording sessions, particularly with his famous "tenor battles" against Dexter Gordon. Despite early success, his career declined due to drug addiction, leading to his tragic death from an overdose at age 34 in Las Vegas.
