Esquerita, born Eskew Reeder, Jr. (1935 or 1938 – 1986), was an influential American R&B singer, songwriter, and pianist known for his flamboyant performances and unique style that significantly impacted early rock and roll, particularly influencing artists like Little Richard. Active from the late 1950s to the 1980s, he recorded several notable singles and an album while collaborating with prominent musicians, including Jimi Hendrix. Despite his initial success, he faced challenges later in life, ultimately passing away in 1986 due to complications from AIDS. Esquerita's legacy includes a distinctive sound and a vibrant persona that has inspired many artists in subsequent generations.
