Booker Ervin

Booker Ervin (1930–1970) was an American tenor saxophonist known for his robust sound and blues/gospel influences, particularly recognized for his work with bassist Charles Mingus. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he honed his craft at Berklee College of Music and later emerged as a prominent figure in the hard bop movement, leading his own groups and recording for notable labels like Prestige and Blue Note throughout the 1960s. Ervin's career included performances at major jazz festivals and collaborations with distinguished musicians, but he faced health challenges and passed away at the age of 39, leaving a lasting impact on the jazz genre.
