Anita EllisAnita Lizana (1915–1994) was a prominent Chilean tennis player who achieved significant milestones in the sport, becoming the first Latin American and Hispanic individual to be ranked World No. 1 in tennis. Notably, she won the U.S. Championships singles title in 1937, marking her as the first Latin American to secure a Grand Slam singles championship. Lizana reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in both 1936 and 1937 and was recognized as one of the top female players of her era before her career waned due to marriage and family commitments. She passed away in London, and her contributions to tennis are commemorated in Chile. (Source: Wikipedia)
