Ray Draper

Ray Draper was an American jazz tuba player born on August 3, 1940, in New York City, and he passed away on November 1, 1982. He began his career in the 1950s, recording notable albums, including "Tuba Sounds" and collaborating with significant musicians such as John Coltrane. Draper was a pioneer of jazz rock fusion, establishing one of the first groups in this genre before facing struggles with drug addiction. Despite his challenges, he continued to perform and compose, working with various artists until his untimely death from a violent incident in Harlem.
