Deal Bill & The Rhondels

Bill Deal and the Rhondels were an American pop band formed in 1959 in Portsmouth, Virginia, known for their blend of blue-eyed soul and beach music. The band achieved notable success in 1969 with several hit singles, including "May I," "I've Been Hurt," and "What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am)," all of which charted in the U.S. During their career, they faced personal tragedy, including the murder of lead vocalist Freddy Owens in 1979, which deeply affected Bill Deal, leading him to leave the music business in 1983. The group disbanded in 1975 but reformed afterward, continuing to perform beyond Bill Deal's passing in 2003.
