Jimmie Davis

Jimmie Davis (1899–2000) was an influential American singer, songwriter, and politician who served as the 47th Governor of Louisiana during two non-consecutive terms from 1944 to 1948 and again from 1960 to 1964. Renowned for his contributions to country music, particularly the song "You Are My Sunshine," which became Louisiana's official state song, he helped popularize the genre beyond its rural roots. His governorship included significant achievements such as establishing the state's first driver's licensing and civil service systems, though he faced criticism for his opposition to desegregation. At the time of his death, Davis was the oldest living former U.S. governor.
