Janet Brace

Charles Loring Brace (1826–1890) was an American philanthropist recognized as a pioneer of the modern foster care movement, best known for initiating the Orphan Train movement in the mid-19th century and founding the Children's Aid Society. Born in Litchfield, Connecticut, and educated at Yale, Brace dedicated his efforts to social reform, focusing on improving the lives of homeless children in New York City by relocating them to rural communities for fostering. His work has been both praised for its humanitarian intent and criticized for its underlying prejudices and consequences, establishing a foundation for contemporary foster care in America.
