Louis Bellson

Louie Bellson (1924–2009) was an influential American jazz drummer, composer, arranger, bandleader, and educator known for pioneering the use of two bass drums. Active from the 1930s into the 21st century, he collaborated with prominent artists such as Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman, and he composed numerous works across jazz and symphonic genres. Bellson was married to jazz singer Pearl Bailey and was recognized with several accolades, including induction into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame and receiving the NEA Jazz Masters Award. He left a significant legacy in jazz education and performance before his passing in 2009.
