Burt Bales

Burton Franklin Bales, known as Burt Bales, was an American jazz stride pianist born on April 20, 1916, in Stevensville, Montana, and died on October 26, 1989, in San Francisco. He began his piano career at twelve and gained recognition in California during the 1930s and 1940s, notably with Lu Watters's Yerba Buena Jazz Band. Bales led his own band after serving in the army and was involved in various musical collaborations throughout his career, recording extensively for multiple labels. His performances spanned several decades, and he became a prominent figure in the San Francisco jazz scene.
