Baker Harold "Shorty"

Harold "Shorty" Baker (1914–1966) was an American jazz trumpeter notable for his work with prominent artists such as Don Redman, Teddy Wilson, and Duke Ellington, with whom he had a long-standing association from 1942 to 1962. Initially starting his career on drums, he switched to trumpet and played on riverboats before gaining recognition in the jazz scene. Baker also collaborated with Johnny Hodges in the early 1950s and recorded several albums as both a leader and sideman. He passed away from throat cancer at the age of 52 in New York City.
