Manny Albam

Manny Albam (1922–2001) was an influential American jazz arranger, composer, saxophonist, and educator, recognized for his innovative contributions to jazz during the mid-20th century. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City, he shifted his focus from performing to composing and arranging, developing a signature bebop style that incorporated distinctive shadings and flute-led sections. Notable works include arrangements for Stan Kenton and Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story," which earned him a Grammy nomination. Throughout his career, Albam also taught at several prestigious music institutions and played a significant role in the advancement of jazz education.
