Teri ThorntonTeri Thornton, born Shirley Enid Avery on September 1, 1934, was an American jazz singer and pianist known for her work in the 1960s and a revival in the 1990s. She began her career performing in Detroit clubs before moving to New York City, where she recorded various albums and won the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Vocal Competition in 1998. Thornton experienced a decline in public visibility but later returned to music before her death from bladder cancer on May 2, 2000. (Source: Wikipedia)
