Betty CarterBetty Carter (1929–1998), born Lillie Mae Jones, was a prominent American jazz singer-songwriter known for her exceptional improvisational skills and scatting technique. Emerging in the late 1940s, she gained recognition by performing with legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Lionel Hampton, becoming a key figure in the jazz scene. Despite facing challenges in her career, including a decline in the jazz genre's popularity during the 1960s, Carter's influence grew as she later founded her own record label and mentored young talent.
