Jerry ButlerJerry Butler Jr. (1939–2025) was an influential American soul singer, songwriter, producer, and politician, known as the original lead singer of the R&B group the Impressions. He achieved significant solo success after leaving the group in 1960, with over 55 Billboard hits including "He Will Break Your Heart" and "Only the Strong Survive." Butler served as a Cook County Commissioner for over three decades while maintaining a music career, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
