The SupremesThe Supremes were a prominent American girl group formed in 1959 in Detroit, originally known as the Primettes. They became the flagship act of Motown Records during the 1960s, achieving unprecedented success with 12 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, largely penned by the songwriting team Holland–Dozier–Holland. Their stylish presentation and crossover appeal helped pave the way for future African-American artists in mainstream music. The group's lineup changed over the years, with Diana Ross being the most notable lead, and they remained active until disbanding in 1977, leaving a significant legacy in music history.
