Lester Flatt & Earl ScruggsThe Foggy Mountain Boys were the backing band for the renowned American bluegrass duo Flatt and Scruggs, formed in 1948 by guitarist Lester Flatt and banjo player Earl Scruggs, both former members of Bill Monroe's band. Active until 1969, they significantly influenced the bluegrass genre, gaining recognition through hits such as "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" and "The Ballad of Jed Clampett." The group is noted for their distinctive sound that combined Flatt's traditional vocals with Scruggs' innovative banjo style, and they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1985.
